2008 Junior Lifeguard Program

The Junior Guard Program is offered to all boys and girls in Los Angeles County. The program is designed to instruct youth (ages 9 through 17) in beach and ocean skills. The five week program provides instruction in water safety, swimming, body surfing, surfing, physical conditioning, competition skills, first aid, lifesaving, rescue techniques, CPR and the use of professional Lifesaving equipment.

2008 NEW and RETURNING Junior Guard Applicants

Girls Swimsuits have -NOT- arrived.
Please DO NOT showup to any swim test or uniform pickup or to buy girl swimsuits.

Online pre-registration and swim tryout *lottery* starts two weeks before each tryout date. Paper applications will also be available at the swim test sites, at the Junior Guard office and at all of the Lifeguard Headquarters.

Pre-registration and lottery for the SECOND swim tryout on Saturday May 17th at Mira Costa has closed.

Pre-registration and lottery for the THIRD swim tryout on Saturday May 31st can be done anytime between May 19th and May 30th ending at noon.

NO changes of class assignments will be made until Wednesday May 21st.

 

 

General Program Information

Program Dates and Hours:

The 2008 Junior Lifeguard program begins Monday June 30th and ends Friday August 1st. Classes are every day, Monday thru Friday. There are two class sessions: Morning session (8:30am - 11:30am) and afternoon session (1:30pm - 4:30pm). Some areas do not offer the afternoon session. Program hours are occasionally modified into a FULL day, upon the Instructors discretion.

 

Program Fee:

The 2008 Junior Lifeguard fee is $420.00. A basic uniform is included in the fee. All students receive a Junior Lifeguard shirt and a swimsuit. The fee also includes membership in USLA. Financial Aid is available.

 

Swim Tryouts:

New applicants for the Summer 2008 program are required to tryout. A photocopy of the applicant's birth certificate must be provided during the registration proceess.

Tryout dates:

May 17th - Mira Costa High School

May 31st - Pepperdine University

Swim Times:

A's (ages 14-17) 100 yards under 1:30

B's (ages 12-13) 100 yards under 1:40

C's (ages 9-11) 100 yards under 1:50

CADETS: (ages 16-17) 500 yards under 7:30 qualifies to move forward in the application process. See Cadet page.
